Protecting the Grid/ AI & Singularity

Wednesday - January 10, 2018

George Noory

Peter Pry, William Henry

Dr. Peter Pry is the Executive Director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security. In the first half, he discussed terrorism, cyber-attacks, EMPs, solar flares and what we can do to strengthen our grid to guard against these and other potential dangers. EMP or electromagnetic pulse, can be naturally generated by the sun or artificially induced by a nuclear or non-nuclear weapon, and cause the collapse of critical infrastructures. The 'Deep State,' he lamented, have defunded the Congressional EMP Commission, which he finds particularly shortsighted, given that North Korea has recently made EMP threats against the US.

One reason the electrical grid in the US hasn't been protected (it would cost an estimated $2 billion) is that electric utilities don't want the federal government inspecting their grids, and looking over their shoulder, Pry explained. Stymied by congressional inaction, some states have started pilot programs to look into hardening their electrical infrastructure-- countries like Russia and China have done so years ago, he reported. Aside from an EMP attack, the natural threat from a solar flare, according to NASA, is 12% per decade, and we're overdue to be hit by a big one (the last catastrophic flare was the 1859 Carrington Event), he added.

Investigative mythologist William Henry applies the latest theories in science and consciousness to ancient myths and hopes to uncover the secrets that are guarded by such groups as the Illuminati. In the latter half, he shared his most recent work on the startling developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and the move closer to the singularity. Having studied humankind's 5,000-year-old quest to transcend the human body and 'ascend' into spiritualized light beings, he's become greatly concerned that the eventual AI plan to move human consciousness into machines or robots will be a soulless endeavor. The mega-corporations or companies behind such advancements are primarily interested in the technology and making money, and not the betterment of the human race, he remarked.

Elon Musk has warned that once AI gets out of control, it's like "summoning the demon," and Henry concurs, comparing such an outcome to the Greek myth of Pandora's box. "There is no off-switch for artificial intelligence or the singularity," Henry cautioned, but "I still hold hope that we can summon the angels, our best selves...and find a way to control AI, and I believe we have a moral and ethical obligation to the future of humanity to do this." While there's a huge upside for advanced technology solving many of the world's intractable problems, he conceded, merging humans with machines for economic purposes, crosses the line and "completely discounts any spiritual value to a human being."
